C++ Software Engineer - Embedded Systems & Hardware Integration

  • USA (On-site) - Austin, Texas

  • Full-Time Permanent Contract

  • Salary: up to $155,000 (DOE)

  • Total Comp: Standard Benefits, Healthcare Plan

A specialist hardware and software company providing test systems used to validate memory and storage devices during high-volume semiconductor manufacturing. Their platform pairs custom test hardware with embedded C++ software to give customers a reliable, flexible way to run large-scale device verification, with test programs often running for hours at a time across environmentally controlled chambers.

They are looking to add an experienced Embedded C++ Software Engineer to their growing engineering team, working closely with hardware and electrical engineers to build and maintain the software that powers their test systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and maintaining C++ software that controls custom test hardware used in high-volume device verification
  • Working directly with hardware engineers to bring up new test board designs, interpreting schematics and datasheets
  • Making Linux kernel and driver-level modifications to support new hardware
  • Maintaining and extending a well-established C++ codebase, understanding when to modernise it and when not to
  • Ensuring APIs are structured cleanly so customers can build their own test scripts, including via Python
  • Debugging and troubleshooting via logging in a closed, embedded environment (no interactive debugging tools)
  • Collaborating closely with a small, flat engineering team and a dedicated hardware team

Ideal Profile:

  • Strong hands-on experience with C++ in a Linux environment
  • Comfortable reading schematics and datasheets, ideally with an Electrical Engineering background or equivalent hands-on hardware experience
  • Experience with Linux kernel or driver development; exposure to Buildroot or Yocto is a strong plus
  • Self-starter who is comfortable diving into an established codebase and figuring things out independently
  • 2+ years of relevant experience (open to non-traditional backgrounds where experience demonstrates the required skills)
  • Must be authorised to work in the US without the need for visa sponsorship
  • Comfortable working 5 days a week on-site in Austin, TX

This is a great opportunity to join a small, hands-on engineering team at a hardware-first business, working on software that sits right at the intersection of embedded systems, low-level Linux development, and real hardware.
