Embedded Firmware Engineer

• Initial part-time contract - 2-3 days per week

• Option to join full-time in 2026

We’re helping a small, well-funded hardware startup scale their next-gen IoT wearable device used in demanding outdoor environments. You’ll take an important role to help them accelerate firmware development for wireless communication on MCUs.

This Initial engagement is part-time, and there’s scope to discuss a full-time role next year as the team grows.

What you’ll do...

• Design and develop low-power C++ firmware on Nordic nRF platform in an RTOS environment.
• Build robust connectivity features across BLE and LTE-M/NB-IoT.
• Implement diagnostics, logging, and fault-tolerant boot/rollback for field devices.
• Collaborate with embedded, app, and cloud engineers to define protocols and test strategies.

Skills you have...

• Strong experience developing embedded systems with modern C++ on MCUs.
• Delivery of BLE features in production devices.
• Experience with cellular IoT (LTE-M/NB-IoT), sockets/TLS, and constrained networking.
• Solid RTOS fundamentals: scheduling, ISR vs threads, memory management, watchdogs, and low-power design.
• Bonus: Hands-on with Nordic SDK/Zephyr, nRF Connect, and common toolchains/debuggers.
