Embedded Security Software Architect

A specialist technology business developing embedded systems for media distribution is looking for an experienced Embedded Software Architect with a focus on Embedded Linux & Device Security to join its engineering team in Ontario.

This is a senior technical role focused on the architecture, design and development of secure embedded software for high-availability audio/video and network monitoring products.

The key requirement is strong embedded Linux expertise, combined with a deep understanding of device security, secure boot, cryptography and the Linux boot process. Video and media distribution experience would be valuable, but can be developed in the role.

Key responsibilities:

• Architect, design and support development of secure embedded Linux software for media distribution products
• Work across Linux kernel, bootloader, BIOS/UEFI, secure boot and device security layers
• Contribute to technical roadmaps, feasibility studies and rapid prototyping
• Support best practice around code quality, design reviews, documentation and secure engineering processes
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams across software, hardware, FPGA and QA
• Mentor engineers and support external consultants where required

Key requirements:

• Strong embedded software engineering background in C/C++, Python/Go
• Experience operating as either a technical lead, architect or senior technical authority
• Deep knowledge of embedded Linux, custom kernel development, device drivers and Linux boot sequence
• Strong understanding of secure boot, cryptography, PKI, security protocols and secured firmware
• Experience with technologies such as LUKS, dm-verity, TEE, TPM, BIOS/UEFI, bootloaders and systemd
• Good understanding of networking principles and cybersecurity concepts

Nice to have:

• Experience with video, broadcast, streaming or media distribution systems
• Knowledge of MPEG2, H.264, HEVC, AAC, AC3, DVB or ATSC
• Experience with GStreamer, FFmpeg, RTP, RTSP, HLS or MPEG-DASH
• Familiarity with content encryption, GPU acceleration or video quality metrics
